What-a-year. We blinked twice and before we knew it – the end of the year is looming upon us and we’re getting ready to do it in style. But before you click away and you go look for that ugly festive jumper yourself, we’d love to look back on last year and share our most remarkable highlights with you.
Are you ready?
Spaces goes sky high and moves into Chrysler building
We could say that conquering an office space at one of the most iconic buildings of New York City is definitely one of this year’s high-lights. This art-deco jewel has been standing tall for over a hundred years now and has made an undeniable mark on Manhattan’s famous skyline. Well, this year it also made an undeniable mark on our very own bucket list, right behind the ‘go sky-high’ check-off-box. Have you already visited Spaces Chrysler Building, situated right in the buzzing heart of Manhattan? No? Then it should be on your 2020 bucket list as well. Escape the crazy New York traffic with its smoke plumes and honking yellows and get yourself up to the 9th floor of this famous landmark. Enjoy the view across the concrete jungle with one of our killer coffees. Maybe plan a New York workation for next year? We promise you, disappointment is not an option here.
We’ve opened our 300th location
This year, we got to say hi to many new locations across the globe. In fact, Spaces opened over 100 locations in 2019! Though, one in particular was pretty special as it marked the 300th opening of Spaces. This being a designer office building at the Marquês de Pombal, right in the midst of the buzzing heart of Lisbon. Portugal’s capital city houses a beautiful old centre that continues to attract more and more creatives from all across the world. With its varied neighbourhoods, where old meets new, you’ll find an interesting mixture of architecture.
Big-time bragging time
Ok, we know it’s rude to brag – but truth be told: Spaces received multiple awards for the best coworking space of 2019 from all around the globe. So we’re pretty proud – we know it – and we’re not afraid to show it. There’s the Best BANG Award for coworking Spaces (Shanghai); the BWA Award for Best CoWorking above 500m2 for Spaces Brussels European District; the Best New Coworking Space (Melbourne) awarded by the Qantas Magazine Business Travel Awards; the PropertyGuru Awards for the Best Co-Working Space in the Philippines and Spaces Amstel has been longlisted for the Frame Awards 2020 Coworking Space of the Year.
Opening of the biggest Spaces ever
You already know, we have a thing for the lost and forgotten buildings. But this time it was time for a new first, as we opened our biggest Spaces building ever: Spaces Cours Valmy. Located in Europe’s biggest business district La Défense in Paris. Here awaits you an impressive glass-box entrance and 9 floors(!) of beautifully designed creative workspace of 180.00 square meters.
Limitless ambitions
This year is a year of many firsts: from new Spaces’ in European gems to all the way across the Atlantic. The ambitions are limitless: “I believe in an urban economy,” says Martijn Roordink, CEO & co-founder of Spaces. “By the enormous growth that we are experiencing, we are able to settle in the most inspiring cities of the world. From Amsterdam to Johannesburg and from Bangkok to Los Angeles.” Spaces was obviously hungry for more and opened its doors in the capital city of Zagreb, followed by Sweden, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Lithuania and New-Zealand.
Coworking is flourishing and became an undeniable noun. We can honestly say, for the past 11 years, Spaces has put itself on the map – quite literally. We’re here to stay and we are proud to be able to add such great value on a global level, to revitalise buildings into dynamic workplaces all over the globe and to bring inspiring people together. This makes for plenty of reason to celebrate and whether that means popping champagne or bringing the fireworks – we leave that up to you. Either way, let’s end the year with a bang, shall we? Cheers!
2020 be ready – we’re coming for you.
