Popping the Cork – a coworking hub in the green heart of Ireland

The city of Cork is known for its enviable work/life balance. Ireland’s southernmost city is the nation’s foodie capital, with its legendary English Market, gastro pubs, and quirky dining experiences. You’re never too far from a lush landscape in County Cork either – there’s plenty of wild beach walks, strolls through vast green grasslands and invigorating clambers up mountainous terrains to keep the outdoors inclined denizens happy. There’s excellent live music, a  rich history and culture, and the cost of living is far cheaper than Dublin.

A stalwart industrial and trading hub, Cork’s future is looking as equally grand as its past, and it’s experiencing mega growth right now. Apple has a campus here, and the likes of IBM, Dell, and Amazon all have a big presence in the city. Big-time investments keep on flowing in – particularly in business infrastructure – and the demand for top-notch office space is through the roof. So of course, we’ve made our move: as of September 2020, SPACES Horgans Quay will make its debut.

AT THE HEART OF THE CITY

Horgans Quay is an ambitious six-acre €160m mixed-use development in Cork’s Northern Docks, the site of the historic railway terminus that connects the city with Dublin. Horgans Quay is right up our street – the project will repurpose some of the gorgeous 19th-century buildings that remain at this historic transport hub, including the goods shed, carriage shed, and original station house. They’ll be converted to house pretty much everything you could possibly need to live, work and play: shops, restaurants, a crèche, a food market, a hotel and swanky apartments. Horgans Quay is going to look incredible – and we’re honoured to be moving in to somewhere that celebrates this special city’s proud industrial heritage.

Overlooking the River Lee, Cork’s Northern Docks are a hub of activity. Step out of Spaces and you can’t miss Cork’s Kent train station (and Cork International Airport is just a 15-minute drive away). All manner of cafés, bars and boutiques surround the regenerated part of the city, and the river views on a clear day are something to behold.

Launching serviced offices in Cork has been on the Spaces bucket list for a while. And we’re pulling out all the stops with Horgans Quay – with such a landmark location, we need a suitably grand entrance. The plan is to craft designer workspace housed in a charming disused limestone warehouse, where Spaces members can plug in to Cork’s buzzing entrepreneurial community, soak up inspiration for their next business move and awaken the most productive version of themselves, while enjoying some of the best views in the city.

WITH ALL THE AMENITIES YOU COULD WANT

At your disposal will be 60 coworking desks centred around an attractive communal area, a business lounge, four sleek meeting rooms – plus 17 private parking spots (an absolute godsend, wouldn’t you agree?). And we’re throwing in a super-fast Wi-Fi connection to boot – word is that Ireland is well on its way to becoming the tech capital of Europe, so we’re anticipating a steady stream of local startup talent will be looking to set up shop in this beautiful city.

Looking for a strategic way to tap into Cork’s potential, without having a physical presence there? Well, you could make SPACES Horgans Quay your virtual offices in Cork, meaning that all of your mail and phone calls can be directed to us, and you get a rather impressive local address that you’ll want to add to your business card in a suitably fancy font.

If life brings you to Ireland – for business, pleasure, or both – and you’re lucky enough to spend some time in Cork, do drop in and check out Horgans Quay when it’s up and running. In our humble opinion, this is going to be an incredible spot, with covetable coworking space and top-grade private offices that will inspire companies of all sizes to aim high.
